Joel, probably too late now, but I noticed that when you install Lion, Spotlight has to re-index everything, and Spotlight is a glutton so your machine will run slower (and hotter) until it finishes.
Here are two links that are helpful. One that tells you how to create it BEFORE installing, and another that shows you the re-download method.

I should try a clean install. Joel, was it hard to figure out how to do that?
Clean install is doing much better now…and now it's reinstalling all the software…
If you need, I can get you the instructions on how to create an install disk on a USB Drive. You don't have to buy the $69 one from Apple.
Yeah, it was an upgrade. That's probably what is going on.
Been on it since day two. Solid for me. Almost zero weirdness. Definitely not more beach ball of death than before. Did you do an upgrade or a clean install? I think, (opinion time) that if your machine was more than a year old, then a clean install would be pretty important. My Mac was only about 7 months old and does not have a lot of apps on it so the upgrade seems to have gone well. Even though, I occasionally think about the value of a clean install at some point.
I get the spinning rainbow randomly while typing now. Various programs stall. Calendar doesn't sync with google apps via exchange channels. Just to name a couple.
hmmm…no bugs that I've discovered…what have you noticed?
I've been digging Lion (the new Mac OS) all morning… Google+: View post on Google+
