matt & emma: destination wedding, virgina

Having never been to Virgina before, I was excited to travel and shoot in a new place.  And the combination of fireflies, mountains, sunsets, and an amazing couple made it a great experience!  The following images were taken at the Rockwood Manor historic bed & breakfast, which was quite the location.

Matt & Emma, thanks so much for inviting me out to photograph your wedding!

Joel - Thanks Peter! I used a couple, most likely the 85 f/1.2 or the 24 f/1.4 though. I like using those two in particular: the 85 for it’s amazing background blur, and the 24 for its unique shallow depth-of-field perspective at a wide angle (which we are used to seeing a great amount in focus with wide angle shots).

Peter Marks - Awesome work Joel! What lens did you use for the narrow depth of field shots?

I had a blast this last weekend getting to shoot in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina!  Here’s one from a little adventure on a creek in Montreat, right below Lake Susan.  Congrats Miriam & Clayton!

Debbie Taggart - Hey Joel – you did an amazing job for how crazy things were! You would think a past photographer would be on time and ready to go! Guess you can’t always be in control…. thank you for your patience and understanding – the photography was actually painless for the kids and I fully expected you to have to work double for every shot! Can’t wait to see the full set! Have a great rest of the summer – looks like you’re booked all over the states.
